Fogliano to Froberger - A Century of Ricercars by Colin Booth Colin Booth : Fogliano to Froberger - A Century of Ricercars.
Solo harpsichord music.

The Ricercar - a form best known from a late example by Bach, is an early form of composition, which later developed into the Fugue. Beautiful, entertaining pieces for keyboard began to appear in the early 16th century, and the works on this album demonstrate this early style, but also include pieces written a century later, of a stricter contrapuntal nature, by the Italian masters Frescobaldi and his pupil Froberger. Three Italian harpsichords with different specifications are used, providing a striking variety of sound. Colin Booth has transferred the mastery amply demonstrated in his recordings of music by J. S. Bach, to this very different, earlier repertoire, played on instruments chosen to match the music.
