Heifervescent : Hoofed and Dangerous.
Shimmering indie guitar pop with orchestral moments.
An upbeat, melodic, pop driven album.
The album starts with 'The Mind Laboratory' a uniquely styled funky pop
track featuring wah-pedalled guitars and a quirky synthesizer riff. The
sentiment of the song is about conditioning the mind to feel optimistic, despite
an acceptance of growing older. A song about being thankful about what you have,
and holding on to love and life.
100 miles or more is quite the opposite of the preceding track - a song about
self doubt and worry that you've overstepped the mark. Acoustics and overdriven
guitars give this a pacey indie rock feel with slightly distressed vocals.
Shopping for religion asks the big questions about organised religion - why?
how? what? It doesn't necessarily rebuke any particular religion, it just says
'don't shove it down my throat'. The music mixes a very catchy melodic chorus
with psyched and 80s synth patterns.
Billy Comes Home moves along on top of catchy repeating guitar progression,
throwing in analogue synths and lush strings. Focusing on returning to a place
you left many years before and finding everything changed - you're no longer
part of a particular society, you're not in the cliques any more and frankly you
start regretting going away in the first place. Jangly guitar arpeggios ring
throughout with 60s style backing vocals.
Bomb is a short, quiet acoustic track about feeling like a ticking bomb running
out of time, hoping that someone can defuse the situation.
Sharkbite is a lamentation - remembering a loved one who was taken away.
Waltzing acoustics, strings and piano and flute underlay vocals which compare the
death to a final sea journey.
Chased by a cow was sparked by an actual event where Andy was actually chased by
a cow whilst trespassing across a farm field. However the incident also
triggered a feeling of mindless giddiness and whilst running away sparked a
further feeling of invincibility. The music is very upbeat, uplifting and
optimistic, with jaunty electric guitars and strong happy pop melodies.
In contrast again, The Man from the County Court depicts a man in trouble,
apologizing for dragging his lover down. A predominantly acoustic track which
keeps you in suspense until the big crescendo at the end.
Rational Behaviour brings a punk/new wave indie feel back to the album with
crunchy guitars and aggressive drums. However the track retains a simple catchy
melody and talks about a friend who criticizes everything but doesn't really
know what he/she's talking about.
A Friend for Life is a song for when you're simply sick of the human race.
Animals don't answer back or try and change your life and that is the focus of
this song. Bouncy acoustics and electric guitars set the base for happy catchy
vocal melodies.
