Rarely can music sound as meditative and powerful as that of Fossildawn, Jade Leary's 2005 release. Usually when artists get this dark and thoughtful they lose any sense of excitement in their work, but Leary's songs have a natural drive—an sense of mystery that encircles you as you listen. He has the perfect voice for this work; it's breathy but sinewy, which adds to the sense that he is sharing some powerful secret. Leary never hard sells the vocals either—preferring to keep himself squarely in the realm of the enigmatic. Standout tracks include "Naiads," ""Summer82," and the darkly beautiful album-rock track, "Born Of a Silent Run."
