When Roland St. John Perez grew tired of planning and manipulating every sound of Seventythree and Elements At Loop Ten, he recorded Magic Midsummer, describing it as "something raw, with the serendipity of rock and roll... and electronic instruments of course." But his refined sensibities are actually most evident in the delicious textures of Magic Midsummer—they lift off the speaker at times: rippling, skittering... rough, and fine alike. Standout tracks include the tender, gently rolling "Fire Below," the regally downcast "Colors Burning Edge," and the tropical neo-lounge of "Wunderwheel."
