The Lost Mode : The Lost Mode.
Medieval music meets living modal music traditions.
Medieval music meets living modal music traditions: The Lost Mode features an
eclectic set of music from the Middle Ages, as well as melodies from Sephardic,
North African, Armenian, Breton, and Basque modal traditions. Our
interpretations are meant to extend, complement, and bridge the gap between
written sources and oral transmission.
New compositions based on medieval models stand next to their century-old
counterparts. Some melodies are lifted out of their original context, presented
in a different meter, or brought to life on instruments that would not have been
known in the music's original culture. The result: a multi-layered, time-and
boundary-crossing collection of tones, timbres, textures, lovingly held together
by the common thread of mode.
