When was the last time you heard a Rennaisance concept album? Hot licks on a lute? Set in England at the court of Elizabeth I--or the Faerie Queene--as she was dubbed, Elizium is a highly original and "painstakingly authentic" work by a trio of musicians that has a reputation for an innovative approch to early music. Hannah Morrison's voice is pure and beautiful, and Mark Wheeler and Dominik Schneider are great on a bunch of citterns, gitterns, lutes, and flutes. The research for this album may have been painstaking, but the music is lilting and lively.
