A best selling genre album on Magnatune, Autophile feature's Spinecar's darkly precise yet deeply cathartic hard rock/metal, built on the the new and interesting structures that they've proven so adept at bringing in to their music. With its cascading, yet tightly controled fury, "Home" is the culmination of everything they've done so far, and "Soul Patch" is another great example of how experimental they can get with structure, without ever losing interest. Their work remains tight and cohesive no matter where they go with it. Most importantly, really good metal has to have both real darkness and real musicianship, and this album has both of these in spades. Eric Braymer and Larry Gagliardi sound genuinely wrathful in a way that surely gratifies the metal gods, while drummer Art Bernstein keeps it all in the pocket with a masterful sense of timing.
