Like the very best album rock of the 1970's, Up From the Mud by New York metal trio Spinecar explores a lot of what's making metal so interesting lately. Asymmetric grooves stay low to the ground while Eric Braymer's vocals alternate between soaring and searing. The musicianship here is exceptionally strong throughout and we're especially fans of drummer Art Bernstein's unexpected rhythms and minimailist approach to metal drumming. Recommended tracks include "Waste Away," the fantastic album rocker "Smoke" and "KC Ripoff." "Leech" is a bit of a miss, but everything else here is great. Check it out!
