Among other work, composer Robert Johnson was employed as a composer for Shakespeare's theatre company, and on Away Delights, leading lutenist Matthew Wadsworth and vocalist Carolyn Sampson bring the best of these compositions to life. Wadsworths' style of playing is perfectly suited to the work; it's intimate, knowing, and and dextrous, much like the great scribe himself. Carolyn Sampson's voice is positively mellifluous—as clear, cool and deep as a mountain lake. There's an inner power and sincerity to this album that make for an incredibly pleasant listening experience.
