Yello Haus is an even deeper exploration of Yongen's sophisticated dream pop sound but with a glorious absence of pop's usual compromises. Luxuriously laid back but exceptionally well structured songs are the perfect environment for which Toshio Kamei's voice to do the incredibly lithe things it does, and the band's great use of melodic counterpoint adds the layers of interest to Yello Haus that have kept it in longterm heavy rotation in the Magnatune offices. The ironically titled "Scream" is a brilliantly coolheaded ballad with touches of traditional eastern strings, and the sly groove of "Romeo Didn't Know Juliet" recalls Adrian Belew's best work. Three bonus tracks are available exclusively on Magnatune including "Give You Up," "Letter" and "Shackles of Gold"-- the last of which is an absolute must hear: it's elegant and deep with a subtle Latin sway. A fantastic album. Highly recommended.
