Electronic artist Chris Harvey draws on minimalist traditions whilst moving
firmly forward, carving out his strong identity with carefully constructed
melodies lingering long after they're heard. No stranger to pushing boundaries
of the experimental organic ambient scene, he also remains true to his roots
absorbing influences from artists such as Aphex Twin, Delia Derbyshire, FSOL,
Thomas Dolby and David Sylvian.
His debut album The White Sail, was released in 1995 which successfully combines
haunting, lyrical melodies with inspired percussion and a rare sense of harmony,
its potential being instantly spotted and picked up for licensing by, among
others Australian Nine Network and MTV.
Second album Otherwake, was released in 2008 and enthusiastically received,
catching the attention of Tom Robinson where it soon become a regular on his
BBC6 show, going on to appear as Pick Of The Month by U.S. E-Musician Magazine.
The album sees a natural evolution of style, being described as ".....subtly
bewitching microhouse.... gently unfolding melodies and intricate,
sophisticated beats".
Chris also continues to be a happening producer on the UK scene, previously
collaborating with numerous musicians - supporting synth legend Klaus Schulze,
performing at the O2 arena in 2006 and recently providing session keyboards and
programming on soul-god Terry Callier's 'Live With Me'.
His often restrained and delicate music is the soundtrack to award winning video
'String Ducky' in U.S. Science Magazine Discover, with his music continuing to
be licensed worldwide for short films, TV spots, games, animation and numerous
podcasts, his original work continues to gain further recognition.
The imminent release of his third album - Colonization, promises to be a treat
for avid fans and those who prefer their electronic music to be aimed at their
frontal lobes.
