Doc Rossi: Baroque cittern.

Doc Rossi specializes in the links between traditional music from a broad range of cultures and music of the baroque. An accomplished cittern and bouzouki player, Doc is also a remarkable guitarist. His music blends the ancient sounds of early music, the intricacies of traditional dance music, and the mystery of "the Old Weird America". He holds a stage with skill, a reverence for the past, a varied and deep repertoire, and a relaxed, conversational wit, drawing listeners in as if they were sitting in his music room.

Although his musical base is firmly in America, his travels have led to an appreciation and mastery of many kinds of traditional music. He found his affinity with Irish traditional music by first falling in love with the dance music of medieval, renaissance and baroque Europe. Doc plays historical as well as modern citterns, and has recorded two albums of music for the 18th-century cittern, often called the English "guittar". His latest album features 18th-century French dance music in contemporary Celtic arrangements.

Doc has written five books about playing cittern, guitar and mandolin. His specialities are solo playing, accompaniment, improvisation, arranging and composition. He runs workshops on ensemble music-making, playing in sessions, and on how to write and arrange music and lyrics with other musicians and artists.
