The outstanding talent of Mexican flutist Eduardo González has placed him
without a doubt as one of the most distinctive Mexican musicians of his
generation. With frequent performances all over Mexico and abroad, he has shared
the scene with international artists like Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli, in
events broadcasted live on international television.
He has performed in the most important music venues in Mexico, including the
Palacio de Bellas Artes. In addition, he has also appeared in international
festivals like the Stratford International Flute Festival (England), "George
Crumb" International Festival (EUA), and Festival Internacional Cervantino,
Flute Festival of UNAM, Forum for New Music "Manuel Enríquez" and Festival
Musical June in Mexico.
In 1996, Eduardo won the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra's Young Artists
Competition (Mexico) and made his debut as soloist with that orchestra under
maestro Francisco Savin. Since then he has been invited to perform with
orchestras like the Carnegie Mellon Contemporary Ensemble, the Carnegie Mellon
Baroque Ensemble, the Symphony Orchestra of the U.A.N.L., the University of
Veracruz Ensemble, the Veracruz Chamber Orchestra, the Veracruz State Youth
Symphony Orchestra, the Yucatan Symphony Orchestra and the Sinaloa of the Arts
Symphony Orchestra.
Eduardo was the first Mexican flutist to be invited to audition for
world-renowned Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, in 2004 and his orchestral
experience includes positions as Principal Flutist of the Aguascalientes
Symphony Orchestra and the Veracruz State Youth Symphony Orchestra, as well as
being a member of the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra and the State of Mexico Symphony
Orchestra. Teaching positions include Assistant Flute Professor of the
University of Veracruz, Flute Lecturer of the State of Veracruz Music Institute,
Flute Lecturer of the Yucatan Cultural Institute and more recently Flute
Professor of the Culiacan Arts Institute. He has also taught master classes in
several Mexican universities and during the Stratford International Flute
Festival, in England. Eduardo has been invited to be a jury of the
"Gildardo Mojica" National Flute Competition in Mexico.
Eduardo's interest to promote the music of contemporary composers has
motivated some of them to honor him with the dedication of their work. So is the
case of the Chacona and Fuga for Flute and Piano by Alejandro Corona, Pan's
Labyrinth and City of Crosses, both for flute and live electronics by Aldo
Rodriguez, and more recently Geometrics for solo flute by the American composer
Aaron Mobley.
More recently, Eduardo made his solo recording debut with the
press-acclaimed album Flautisimo!, including contemporary music for solo flute and
a CD of Latin American great hits for flute, which is soon to be
published.
Eduardo received his Masters degree in flute performance from Carnegie
Mellon University (USA), where he studied with Jeanne Baxtresser and Alberto
Almarza. He also graduated with honors from the University of Veracruz (Mexico).
He completed his training with international artists like James
Galway, William Bennett, Timothy Hutchins and Robert Langevin, among others.
He has been the recipient of several grants and scholarships from
prestigious institutions like the Fulbright Foundation, the University of
Veracruz, the National Fund for Culture and Arts of Mexico and the National
Office of Education (Mexico).
For several years now, Eduardo has embarked in a career as a conductor,
emerging from a new generation of young Latin American conductors whose talent
is rapidly achieving more presence in the world's musical stage.
