Ian Underwood is a bassist of uncommon ability. Hailing from a very, very
small town in western Connecticut, he picked up the bass guitar and the bagpipes
simultaneously at age 11. For a couple of years, the bagpipes were Ian's
obsession, and he still plays them professionally today. But in 2001 Ian joined
a rock band, and the bass bug truly got him.
Jazz became an important part of his life as well. He went on to study at
Berklee College of Music, and has been performing and teaching professionally
ever since. Accomplished at both the electric and double bass, Ian draws his
influences from the likes of John Patitucci, Eddie Gomez, Jimmy Haslip, and Ric
Fierabracci, to name just a few.
In March of 2012 Ian moved to New York City to join his old friends and
colleagues in music. Good things should be following very shortly.
In his spare time, Ian enjoys picnics on the grass and long walks on the beach.
