With half a million miles and over a thousand concerts in the rearview mirror, recording Artist Shane Jackman is a consummate performer who has shared the stage with Howard Jones, Peter, Paul and Mary, Shawn Colvin, Marty Stewart, the Mavericks, Michael Martin Murphy, and Pete Segar.

Surpassing 150 concerts a year in the college theaters, festivals and grass roots halls, Shane has amassed a substantial national following and garnered substantial critical acclaim—including some well-earned time on the Americana Top 40 charts. Jackman's are songs to be envisioned and tasted and felt, and it's been said that only way to improve on the experience of listening to Jackman's albums would be to have Jackman and his friends around your campfire.

[Article] Shane Jackman has found his balance.

With half a million miles and over a thousand concerts in the rearview mirror, Shane Jackman took a break from his breakneck touring schedule to make a difficult decision. Would he continue this life as a successful professional musician performing upwards of 150 dates a year, or would he leave it all behind to put down roots with his young family?

The title of Jackman's latest album holds the answer. Equilibrium signals Jackman's decision to come home. Full of songs like "What I Did on My Summer Vacation" and "The Angle of Repose," Jackman's latest album celebrates the thrills of being on the road, the bittersweet relief of leaving it behind, and the joys of coming home.

It has been a long road for the critically-acclaimed songwriter and guitarist, who left his native Salt Lake at a young age to pursue his career as a singer-songwriter on the East Coast. With his wife and young baby, Jackman tended polo horses and lived in a hay loft to make ends meet while getting his start in front of discriminating East Coast coffeehouse crowds. Before long, Jackman's reputation as an insightful songwriter and engaging performer earned him gigs with artists like Michael Martin Murphy, Peter Paul and Mary, Shawn Colvin, Marty Stewart, Trisha Yearwood, the Mavericks, Pete Segar and Howard Jones.

Jackman then launched a five-year touring stint, which took him across the country and saw the release of 2 albums. Shane sold CDs out of his trunk while touring colleges, cafes and clubs around the nation, amassing an underground following of students and music lovers.

Jackman's first album, Rhythm of the Land, debuted in the Americana Top 40 on the Gavin radio chart, and garnered praise and critical acclaim industry wide. Newspapers, music magazines and the industry's leading songwriters all praised Jackman's lyrical ease and rich melodies. In the middle of his hectic touring pace, Jackman had found his rhythm as a musician on the road.

His second album, Looking West, released to similar praise, but belied a longing for a simpler place and time. A tribute to Jackman's pioneer heritage, Looking West captured the imaginations of East Coast audiences fascinated with the lure of the West.

Now on his third album, Sanctuary, Jackman is taking the next step. Salt Lake City-based Highway Records snatched up the talented singer-songwriter with a record deal that allowed Jackman the freedom to stay home with his family yet still record and perform the music he loves. He's eager to spend time with the most important people in his life, his wife and two children.

Salt Lake City has an invaluable prize in Jackman. Still tightly connected with the national folk singer-songwriter scene, Jackman is often called on to represent Utah and the West on the national stage. In 1999, Jackman was invited along with 3 other Utah songwriters to perform on a special stage at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, Texas. In 2000 Jackman invited Kristen DeWitt and Michael Lille, two other nationally known folk artists, to join him as he recorded Equilibrium. DeWitt's delicate vocals and Lille's expertise on the guitar added new shades of color and layers of meaning to the statements that Jackman is making with this album.

Jackman continues to strengthen the singer-songwriter scene in Salt Lake not only through his national ties but by hosting a monthly get together called Songwriters in the Round. Each month, Jackman invites two or three other Utahns to join him in trading songs on stages in Ogden, Salt Lake and Provo. Already he has been joined by the likes of Peter Breinholt, Julie de Azevedo, Ryan Shupe and Anke Summerhill.

Jackman, his wife Linda, and their two children live in Springville, Utah.

These are songs to be envisioned and tasted and felt, and the only thing better than this CD would be Jackman and his friends around your campfire.

Michael Martin Murphy
The real soul of America...His music will haunt you because it is poetry and his image is shaped by that poetry...Image shaped by poetry is priceless.

Gavin Radio Report
A pure delight...Jackman has no problem distinguishing himself as one of the better entities of the singer-songwriter world.

Acoustic Musician Magazine
Jackman presents material that is substantive, soulful and artfully phrased...He has the ability to shift from songs of grim import to a jazzy fishin' tune, from vulnerability to a gutsy rendition of the outlaw on the run...The man is indeed going places.

Deseret News
The best folk singers are storytellers, and Jackman's no exception... As powerful as the words were, the music was equally captivating... Eloquence on this level is uncommon indeed, and no one wanted to let it go.

Music World
An incredible artist, an incredible album.

Green Man Review (British Arts Magazine)
I'd be very surprised if someone didn't suggest to Shane Jackman that he use Uncommon Eloquence as the title for this CD. He's probably too modest to have considered the idea, but he'd have been perfectly justified.
