Through a seamless integration of trance, ambience, and breakbeats; Sterling has created a progressive style that is uniquely his own. A style that is represented by intensely emotive work dealing with themes such as loneliness, faith, and transcendence. In Sterling's mind, it goes beyond music: he is struggling to create the soundtrack to a new reality, teeming with so much hope and possibility.
Bridging the gap between Post-Rock and Electronica, Sound of Seventy Three manage to find the commonality between the two genres placing long-form post-rock right next to trip-hop influenced remixes without either sounding out of place. The original tracks are often guitar-driven instrumental pieces in the best post-rock tradition making full use of the electric guitars' immense range to craft dynamic-cinematic music that demands to be listened to. The remixes on the other hand explore the sound of recoded media as a subtle form of musical expression with noise like tape hiss, vinyl dust, and digital artifacts being intentionally added to the music to add 'color' and 'shade' to the remix of each track.
A program of transcriptions of 11 Lyric Pieces and the Holberg Suite by Edvard Grieg. This music was originally for piano, and transfers successfully to the medium of guitar duets. Grieg created a world of intimacy and lyricism that is well represented on the classic guitar. The instrument has the ability to project colors and shadings not possible on the keyboard. Also, most of the brief motifs used in the Lyric Pieces are taken from Scandinavian folk music, and the guitar has its own special charm with folk rhythms and melodies.
A hyphen is a connection between contrasting ideas. Hyphen is an album that collects many contrasting ambient sounds together. It ranges from cold ambient drones to warm New Age tunes and beyond, Hyphen is an album of contrasts. Like all of her music, Hyphen has no vision and no goal, it's simply a discovered medley of fascinating digital ambient textures.
From the back of cupboard, originally released in 2003:
Deliciously mathy structures overlaid with highly original, funk-tinged instrumental grooves are what you'll get on the perennial Magnatune jazz best-seller, Big Dipper by the award-winning Drop Trio. This group thrives on improvisation and is influenced by avant-garde jazz, so the overall vibe here is loose, but the chops here are tight and the structure is never neglected, so the overall effect is pretty darn airtight. This is a great album to put on in the afternoon while you're working, or in the evening when you're ready for happy hour. It's upbeat yet just mellow enough too, it'll keep you moving forward without dragging you down.

On this second release, Sterling
attempts a more thematic work dealing with the idea of the destruction and
rebirth of the Earth. The various songs were produced and arranged within this
conceptual framework. In the end, this album came to be a unique experience
including more energetic songs along with the trademark ambient works that
Sterling has come to be known for.
It makes for a unique and engaging listening
experience that leaves it up to the listener as to what they want to feel and
how they want to interpret things. Sterling loves to maintain a sense of
mystique within his works and this album does just that.
Description:
expansive guitar-driven post-rock with trip-hop tinged remixes
With one eye on the history of recorded music and the other on its future, Sound
of Seventy Three's self-titled debut is an experiment in technology, economy,
and fidelity that results in a genre-jumping album which still seamlessly comes
together as a whole.
Bridging the gap between Post-Rock and Electronica, Sound
of Seventy Three manage to find the commonality between the two genres placing
long-form post-rock right next to trip-hop influenced remixes without either
sounding out of place. The original tracks are often guitar-driven instrumental
pieces in the best post-rock tradition making full use of the electric guitars'
immense range to craft dynamic-cinematic music that demands to be listened
to. The remixes on the other hand explore the sound of recoded media as a subtle
form of musical expression with noise like tape hiss, vinyl dust, and digital
artifacts being intentionally added to the music to add 'color' and 'shade' to
the remix of each track.
Inspired as much by the 'Lomo' toy-photography movement, as by 'gadget-music',
Sound of Seventy Three also explore the musical expressiveness of what many
would consider 'toy' instruments. Some of these instruments include the
Stylophone, Stylophone Beatbox, Korg Kaossilator and Vox AmPlugs. Amazingly the
resulting music is neither comedic, campy, or kitschy and instead has a gravity
and intimacy that proves that you can make 'real' music with these new
affordable musical tools. Just like your favorite mix-tape Sound of Seventy
Three is a collection of music that defies easy categorization and yet is all
the better for it.
The Estrem and Holmquist guitar duo (active from 1971-1988) performs a program of
Estrem's transcriptions of 11 Lyric Pieces and the Holberg Suite by Edvard
Grieg. The music was originally for piano, and transfers successfully to the
medium of guitar duets. Grieg created a world of intimacy and lyricism that is
well represented on the classic guitar. The instrument has the ability to
project colors and shadings not possible on the keyboard. Also, most of the
brief motifs used in the Lyric Pieces are taken from Scandinavian folk music,
and the guitar has its own special charm with folk rhythms and melodies.
This album was recorded in an acoustically-live stone church in 1980, released
on vinyl but was never re-released as a CD. The master tape was lost, but now 30
years later, with the advances in digital restoration of vinyl albums, this gem
of a recording is reborn.
"This music speaks to the heart, and the rapport and sensitivity of the
performers recalls the eminent duo of Presti and Lagoya."

Hyphen, the debut album from Braindouche! producer Meredith Matthews, is an
experimental ambient album with a broad scope.
