Description:Generative electronic landscapes and dynamic live percussion
Genre:Electronica
Artist:Ostracon
Album:Unauthorized Modifications

On this debut electronica/jazz album from the duo Ostracon, John Keston uses custom sequencing software to convert video signals into a stream of generative melodic structures. During their performances and recording sessions Keston captures, layers, loops, arranges and processes these phrases building spontaneous compositions.

Graham O'Brien accompanies these angular, electronic structures, with dynamic drumming that flirts with the underworld. O'Brien's percussive statements firmly place the compositions into a non-linear landscape, grounded in a familiar yet impossible to categorize igneous crust.

Description:melodic, eclectic 'quirk-pop'
Genre:Alt Rock
Artist:Linda Wood
Album:Return

Over the course of its eleven songs, Wood embraces pop mixed with an assortment of different flavors, including singer/songwriter, rock, Latin, and jazz. All of it is tied together with Wood's strong, pop sensible voice and stellar musical performances from her backing musicians. The subtle and unusual addition is, of course, a ukulele. Rather than colouring the entire album it is blended beautifully into the instrumentation in a way that represents the ukulele-wielding songtress' style very well. The gentle upbeat feel of the album is definitely easy listening.

An honest album that is both nostalgic and fresh, Return is, for the most part, a reminiscence about the choices Wood has made that have in turn made her. These reminiscences are personal and universal, such as a first kiss, body image struggles, love hoped for, loneliness, and frustration in relationship.

Description:Canadian composer, musician, orchestrator, arranger and sound designer

Artist:Francois Couture
Album:Qallunak

Qallunak (pronounced kadlunak) is an album where tradition and modernity interweave. Musician, composer and Canadian producer François Couture was inspired by throat singing and traditional Inuit song to create this music. With the collaboration of Annie Ikkidluak, Celestin Erkidjuk, Daniel McLister, Elisha Kilabuk and Koomoo Nooveeya McLister with the songs.

A surprising album where two worlds meet and become one. Electronic, acoustic and vocal sonorities combine together to redefine a modern environment integrated in its roots. In the first few seconds, the listener is immediately immersed in the universe of the Canadian far North.

A combination of cinematographic, electro, pop and other arrangements contribute to emphasize the emotion emanating from these traditional songs. The unique character of this recording makes it impossible to circumvent.

Album:The Stuff of Fairy Tales

A breezy, fresh look at fairy tales as told with a piano, lilting vocals and a sprinkling of humor. Enjoy a bluesy take on the story of Snow White with "Fairy Tale Ending," a Beatles-inspired version of the Cinderella story in "I Should Know Better," and a gentle, romantic song based on "The Snow Queen" among others. Emma keeps it light and promises happy endings in this album that is The Stuff of Fairy Tales.

Album:Rainforest Suite

"Well named, Rainforest Suite. You can feel and smell the dampness, see the green and hear the echo of the woods around you. The first track is called "Silent Voices" and it places you deep in the middle of a silent forest. In "Spirit Lake", single strings being plucked give the sense of raindrops hitting large green leaves. This album is labeled new age and is predictably calming and peaceful. It would work well as background music; however, I found it extremely energizing and exciting when I just sat and listened closely. A uniquely moving work."
