CRISIS is the brain child of Los Angeles based artist Ajax Garcia and NEWSTED drummer Jesus Mendez Jr.
During The Napoleon Blownaparts US tour stint supporting KISS and WEEZER back in 2001 the band had plans to record their long awaited followup to their 1998 album "Thrill Hype" but due to conflicting schedules plans to record were put on hold as drummer Jesus Mendez Jr. had prior commitments to his other band NEWSTED (see Jason Newsted of METALLICA).
Mendez and Ajax along with new recruit Eric Griffin (MURDER DOLLS) on bass guitar finally entered the studio to begin tracking but because of musical differences the band never got passed the recordings of just two cover tracks with Griffin as part of the line up. The two tracks that were recorded were ultimately released as part of Jetboys Of Babylon (a tribute to The New York Dolls album) which featured David Johansen himself and Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols. Ajax, Mendez and Griffin contributed a blistering version of the Dolls classic Puss In Boots.
Griffin's replacement was bassist Doug Wellmon a young punk rocker from Hollywood California and a former member of the band Pipedown.
When the two musicians finally began tracking they recruited a number of musicians to guest on what would become the CRISIS album including legendary blues musicians John Clifton on Harmonica and the legendary Edward Burke on piano. The 70 year old Edward Burke also played with the Ike and Tina Turner Review in the 1970's. Long time friend and guitarist Jessie Farnsworth also of NEWSTED completed the line up and CRISIS was finally released in 2010. AMERICA'S TIRE company used the opening track HELL YEAH as part of their national advertising campaign and the UK CLASSIC ROCK MAGAZINE picked up on the second single MY SPACE PICTURES for their tribute to Guns N' Roses insert Sons Of Guns.
Sonically CRISIS is a raw mix of punk rock and garage rock and roll with heavy doses of soul and the blues. Drawing influences from the likes of The Rolling Stones, New York Dolls, The Stooges and heavy tip of the hat to Chuck Berry the CRISIS album takes you on a dark trip down a seedier side of Hollywood California not advertised to tourists.
The classic slash and burn guitars, frantic drumming under the impressive vocal range of guitarist/vocalist Ajax Garcia make up this low-fi gem.
Recognized for his powerful, raw, biting but truthful commentary on our cultural and social condition, Ajax' work on the song "Hedonistic Babies" resonates on every level! Garcia is a post postmodern rarity of authentic swagger and angst, continually serving up his Fresno-born and Hollywood-bred artistry on his own terms. Crisis Starts Now!
