Genre:Ambient
Artist:Mystic Crock
Album:Difference

Soft pads and drone sounds mingle here with grooving bass. The drum and percussion elements have partially a bit more drive than on the previous album, and especially the melodies are more diverse and sophisticated.

Mystic Crock combed through the archives of his music studio and came across many unpublished rough diamonds, which he remixed and awakened to new life (eg, "The Difference").

With "Difference", his second solo album, Mystic Crock continues the great work shown on his debut album "Nomad" and preserves its ambient and chillout style.

Description:a fresh new approach to lush indie pop
Genre:Alt Rock
Artist:Mountain Sounds
Album:Mountain Sounds

Recorded in an out-of-use orphanage in the mountains of Guatemala, Mountain Sounds is an entirely self-produced, indie-in-the-truest-sense-of-the-word recording project comprised of two friends coming together from separate parts of the world to realize a shared vision of rock and roll music.

The album is a testament not only to the importance and scarcity of true creative chemistry, but also to the need to make art regardless of the obstacles in the way. All of us were born to create; it's as natural as breath, as necessary as food, and comforting as sleep. We grew up drawing pictures, singing songs, staging plays - but we kept growing, and we found ourselves working in banks, managing retail shops, selling insurance. The only singing we do now is in cars piddling along in rush hour traffic.

'Mountain Sounds' is a step away from what we've become and back towards who we were. Six years removed from their last collaborative recording project, Portland, Oregon's Tim Hoyt and Guatemala's own Franc Castillejos came together to make something vital and new in the only place they could: a vacant orphanage in the mountains of Central America.

Former band mates separated for years by arbitrary ideas like nationalities, immigration laws, and time zones (not to mention several thousand very real miles), Hoyt and Castillejos found themselves discouraged and sputtering after years apart; drifting ever farther from the life they loved, ever closer to a life neither of them wanted. On the verge of acquiescence, they chose instead something altogether different: a last-ditch attempt to be who they used to be.

After a summer spent recording and trading demos separately, Tim quit his insurance job and left his home in Portland, Oregon, relocating to Franc's family's property on a secluded patch of land in the Cordillera Alux mountain range west of Guatemala City. The two set up shop in an old, out-of-use orphanage on the grounds, transforming the space into a functioning studio using what limited resources they could find.

For three months they lived and breathed nothing but their music, taking breaks only for meals, even sleeping in the makeshift studio. The long, cold rainy season ensured that they spent almost every waking moment in that space, working without interruption. Their seclusion provided extraordinary focus; their extreme limitations, an opportunity to try everything differently.

After three months, they emerged with twelve songs that showcased their distinct voice; songwriting defined by complex catchiness, minor chord melancholy, and sparse, deliberate arrangements. Franc's lyrics embody his unique perspective as a man caught in the middle, a Guatemalan who spent a decade in America, who thinks in Spanish but writes in English, who loves his home and his country but longs for his friends in a land he's not permitted to visit.

Nothing about 'Mountain Sounds' was easy or without risk. Nothing was normal: not where it was made, or how. Not how its creators reunited after years apart, putting their entire lives on hold to pursue something they hadn't done together in ages. But concepts like "easy," "safe," and "normal" don't matter very much when you're doing what you were born to do. And with 'Mountain Sounds,' Franc and Tim are finally back where they always should have been.

Description:Diverse, intelligent electronica from London
Genre:Electronica
Artist:Mike McGuill
Album:Lost Horizons

Mike McGuill's debut release on Magnatune draws from a deep pool of styles and influences, artfully fusing electronic and synthesised sounds with real-world instruments and sound design elements.

Dance and electronica-inspired beats and rhythms underpin dramatic, lush and melancholic musical arrangements, with a touch of jazz thrown in. Guitars, mandolins, brass and strings co-exist with deep electronic grooves. Prepared pianos, celestas and music boxes intertwine with restless, unsettling beats.

This is a collection of atmospheric tracks intended to evoke abandoned landscapes, half-forgotten memories, and lost horizons.

Description:Catchy dance pop with insightful lyrics
Genre:Electro Rock
Artist:Lilly Wolf
Album:Play Loud

"Play Loud is a pretty straight-forward album title, but the motivation and song contents go deeper than just partying. This was my first dance album. Prior to this I'd put out an LP of indie pop songs, some of them very pretty and sparse, but the response was always muted at live shows. I got tired of people just sitting and watching me and not really participating. So for a change, I wrote several songs that could be played at a party, you know, 4-on-the-floor dance music, but I kept writing lyrics about things that are important to me.

'Everybody On Your Block' epitomizes the album's style, with lyrics about depression and failure over an irresistibly catchy synth-driven beat."

Description:chillout music for late nights and early mornings
Genre:Electronica
Artist:Kalabi
Album:Music for Televisions

"Music For Televisions" features a more stripped back production style from Kalabi. The melodies and hooks are still here, but the delays and special effects have been turned down. Kalabi decided to go back to his early days of music making, when there were limited tracks and limited hardware. So, using only eight tracks for each song, and using only analog modeled keyboards, he has made an interesting addition to his growing catalog.

Description:Canadian composer, musician, orchestrator, arranger and sound designer
Genre:Electronica
Artist:Francois Couture
Album:Tape Speed

The album "Tape Speed" stirs the soul from the very first seconds. François Couture continues to blend modern electronic rhythms with subtle ethnic and even rock motives. He easily immerses the listener in the changing world of his music. And this world turns out to be very exciting.

The music of François Couture is very special. It is impossible to compare it with anything. The album Tape Speed is filled with passion. You simply lose yourself in the shimmering of François Couture's moving music. It is adorned by string instruments which give a completeness to the artists inspired compositions.

Description:rock, alternative rock, indie rock, psych rock
Genre:Alt Rock
Artist:Father of Sam
Album:C-Section

Father of Sam's debut album is entitled C-Section. Released in 2012, it is a heavy psych-pop in-your-face experience. The music ranges from dark and moody to catchy, danceable rhythms but always with an edge and a touch of sarcasm.

C-Section is an honest and unpretentious album featuring excellent musicianship and strong vocals. Sophisticated but with plenty of working class appeal. An album that is certain to please hard rock fans as well as the indie set.

Father of Sam was formed by Alec Badxxxxx and Stephan Kuzibutta in 2008. The two New York City based musicians grew up subjects of the former Soviet Union bringing a unique approach to American music.

Album:The Classical Period on Ukulele and Guitar

The Classical period in Western music is generally accepted as being somewhere between 1730 and 1820, with a style that emphasizes light elegance in place of the Baroque's dignified seriousness and grandeur. The music is mainly uncomplicated and intended to be performed with minimal rehearsal time. Mozart writes about "the rehearsal", with the implication that his concerts would only have one.

Two outstanding composers of the late eighteenth century are Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). They not only wrote in the same idiom, but became personal friends, and each admired and was influenced by the music of the other.

Mozart is represented on this recording with the well-known serenade "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" originally written for small string orchestra. Haydn's "Baryton Trios" were composed for a now-extinct instrument playing the lead part. The baryton, a somewhat complicated instrument similar to a large viola da gamba was equipped with an extra set of resonating metal strings for plucking in addition to the main bowed strings. Haydn wrote nearly 200 pieces for the baryton, mostly in trio combination with viola and cello. James Hook (1746-1827) was a lesser-known English composer. His trio performed on this recording is originally for three flutes. The tenor ukulele is the lead instrument on all of the tracks on this album.

Description:Urban Flamenco
Genre:World
Artist:Eric Kamen
Album:Eric 2

Motivated by the global success of his first World Music album "Native Unit", Eric released his second World Music album, Eric 2.0. 'As all artists know, in the wake of a success, you can't (or shouldn't!) simply follow the same equation which lead to the first success. Whether you are Mary J., Beyoncé or Shakira ... you gotta keep moving forward! ... for the sake of your soul as well as your audience.'

'I attempted to really understand what so many people around the world enjoyed about my first album ... and built upon it in my second album Eric 2.0'. It wasn't such a radical departure from the basic notion of merging contemporary beatz with more traditional music from around the world, but feeling emboldened by the success of my first album Native Unit, I took some 'leaps of faith' I doubt I would taken on my first album. For starters - I used a photo of myself for the album cover!

'I also took a lot more liberties in the degree of musical diversification ... by including Asian and Indian tracks.'

'Eric 2.0 too was a successful financial and artistic undertaking, including my highest selling and most often played track - Goin' Down. I am pretty proud of the album!'

Description:passionate, evocative, and captivating new age
Genre:Ambient
Artist:Carlos Schwarz
Album:Impressions

Every song in Carlos"s second New Age album tells a great story depicting a life impression that will take you to a journey through your inner self.

The use of various acoustic and ethnic instruments create a subtle combination of serene-sounding passages elevated by the beauty of soothing voices. The album has a great flow and iterates smoothly between songs until the end. It is initially pushed by the warmth of a beautiful acoustic piano with the tenderness of an angelical voice, evolving to more intense passages featuring crisp acoustic guitars, ethnic percussions, and the sweetness of the violin to create heart-warming melodies that will take you to a peaceful and relaxing state of mind.

The use of various cultural sounds adds a tremendous amount of flavour to the arrangements creating a very distinctive yet sublime effect. Subtle touches are always present throughout the album meticulously mixed to take the listener into a visionary experience.
