Magnatune: now in the espresso coffee business

These past 4 months I've been trying to buy a kickstarter-funded Espresso Machine company. The New York Times Sunday Magazine ran a cover story on the whole thing which makes for a good extended read. I'm in the last few paragraphs of the story.

While still running Magnatune (and I get help from others too!) I'm now heading a team that's designing a new espresso machine for the home. You can read about why I'm interested in this or more about my espresso coffee machine company, called "Decent Espresso".

Description:Lose yourself in the electronic
Genre:Electronica
Artist:Love Amplifier
Album:Creation and Destruction

"Creation" was inspired almost entirely by a single Chemical Brothers concert, and the afterglow that resulted and followed me through my life for the next year or so.

"Destruction" was inspired by the negative reactions to my positive, uplifting music, and the positive reactions to my dark, depressing music.

"Hotel Ryugyong" is by far my favorite track that I have ever written. I remixed it as "Yellow Star" for the mixtape "12 Steps to Serenity", and it is included on my later album "Virtuoso 13".

It is based on a melody that came to me as I stared at the sun while my eyes were shaking.

"Creation" and "Destruction" were my first two albums, composed between 2007 and 2009. In addition to these two albums, the combined album "Creation and Destruction" contains several additional tracks that didn't make it into either album.

Album:Oriental Spaces

"Oriental Spaces" by Homeless Balloon has 76 minutes of chill out music mixed with world fusion grooves and acoustic performances shattered with experimental, electronic sounds, ambient atmospheres and some strong melodic themes.

Album:Telemann Trios on Guitar

German Baroque composer, Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) was one of the most prolific composers of his time with a body of work comprised of more than 3,000 pieces. He lived a relatively long life extending into the early Classical Period, and despite declining health in his later years, he continued to compose music of the highest quality until the evening of his death.

Telemann's music was one of the driving forces behind the late Baroque and early Classical styles. His music gradually changed over the years incorporating more and more elements of the galant style, however he never completely adopted the ideals of the early Classical Period. Telemann's style remained contrapuntally and harmonically intricate, and already in 1751 he dismissed much contemporary music as too simplistic. One can hear examples on this recording where the piece begins sounding almost Haydn-like and then gradually becomes more densely polyphonic and complex.

Transcriptions for guitar by Anton Hoeger (Germany).

Description:natural mix of rock, folk, and reggae
Genre:Alt Rock
Artist:The Donnis Trio
Album:Cole Pond

Most of the tracks on this album are drawn from the lens of nature and childhood memories. Driving in the summer to vacation at Cole Pond with the family or feeling the warmth of a fire lit room in the winter. The music sought to capture the magic of these experiences as they were so fondly recollected.

This is a great album to listen to while driving through the country and small towns or just something to put on at home when you want to have some wine and relax.

"Cole Pond" is collection of folk songs released by The Donnis Trio in 2012.

Genre:World
Artist:The Dimples
Album:Shop Sessions

HandPans (or "Hang"), are a fairly new instrument. They were Invented in Switzerland in 2000. They're a relative of the Steel Pan and are, as the name implies, designed to be played by hand.

Judith and Colin connected in late 2013 and they've been playing together ever since. Inspired and delighted by an absolute passion for the beauty and resonance of the "singing steel," Colin and Judith are The Dimples.

When starlings flock together, wheeling and darting through the sky in tight, fluid formations, it's called a murmuration. Using basic melodic structures as framework for improvisation, The Dimples create murmurations of harmony and rhythm.

Description:Irish, Indian, Swedish and Eastern European music styles overlaid with Austrian yodelling
Genre:World
Artist:Claudia Schwab
Album:Amber Sands

Stomping rhythms, fiery reels, consoling Indian raags and funk-beat yodelling entice the listener to follow the musicians to the holy river ganges, the West coast of Ireland, over to remote villages in Bulgaria, Swedish forests and alpine pastures in Austria.

Claudia Schwab's debut album "Amber Sands" is a compilation of music that unites the sounds of her native home-place of Austria with her adopted home of Ireland, as well as various other music traditions with which she feels at home.

A unique and atmospheric blend of Irish, Indian, Swedish and Eastern European music styles overlaid with her native Austrian yodelling, Schwab's music reflects her passion for people, place, and their associated music.
