Magnatune Artist Phantasm wins Gramophone Early Music Award

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 15, 2004
Berkeley, California

Phantasm's recording of Orlando Gibbons has been chosen as 'Best of Category in Early music' and as one of six records nominated for the title 'Record of the Year'.

The recording is a second Gramophone award for Phantasm after their debut recording of Purcell Fantasias in 1997.

This year, six celebrities have been chosen to promote the nominated discs in the national press, radio and television, and Phantasm will be championed by the BBC's world affairs editor, John Simpson. Mr Simpson, presenting the award to Laurence Dreyfus at the awards ceremony last week described the disc as being "exquisitely scaled" and "like angels singing".

The recording is available on CD on the Avie record label, as well as on Magnatune.com. Magnatune and Magnatune's owners John Buckman and Jan Hanford are listed as executive producers on the recording as well as helping to finance the recording.

Magnatune has made a bonus track (In Nomine A4), not available on the commercial CD, available to both the purchasers of the CD (through a special URL printed in the CD liner notes) as well as to those who purchase through Magnatune a CD or download.
