Grounds for Pleasure by Colin Booth Colin Booth : Grounds for Pleasure.
Solo harpsichord music.

Most of this album consists of grounds. Some were written during the reign of the first Queen Elizabeth, around 1600, and others after the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660, following the English Civil War and the Protectorate. The pieces by William Croft, a devotee of Henry Purcell, are even later, and some, like those by Thomas Tomkins, who had studied with William Byrd but lived into the middle of the seventeenth century, can be said to bridge the gap between the English Renaissance and the Baroque.

This beautiful new recording, made in 2014, is the first album recording on a newly-restored original 17th century harpsichord.

Those who are particularly interested will enjoy the upper manual (played with the left hand here) being at 4 foot pitch (i.e. an octave higher than notated).

Full liner notes are available with the artwork download to members.
