One Drop Imposter by Conway Hambone Conway Hambone : One Drop Imposter.
Multi-genre instrumental and vocal conquests made with love and fuzz.

This is a collection of Conway Hambone's Reggae Ska & Dub recordings from the past 20 years, finally now all in one place!

It took a global pandemic to give me enough time, and focus, to go through various hard drives, zip disks, mini discs, and tapes to mix edit and master what I had found.

I have always dabbled a bit playing Reggae/Ska/Dub over the course of many years, as much interested in the playing of it, as of the recording techniques involved. Always been fascinated by the sounds of Lee Scratch Perry's recordings from the Black Ark studios, King Tubby also the Trojan Label.

Being a teenager in London in the late 70's this music along with Punk went hand in hand, with Dub/Reggae being played at clubs and gigs everywhere. Punk bands such as The Clash/The Members/Ruts etc always had versions of Reggae influenced tracks on their albums; someone was always including a Dub version of their single on a B side. I was absorbing this it all at the time, it seems.

I sometimes get a feeling of 'imposter syndrome' when recording Reggae tracks. Also being aware of the term 'Cod Reggae' aimed at white bands years back for doing their versions (10cc dreadlock holiday) I received a comment many years ago, when playing one of my early fore's into Dub to someone, they said to me "best leave it alone mate" I think this made me more determined!

You can hear the influences are quite obvious on a couple of these tracks, whilst others have more of a hybrid approach to the genre. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I have had recording these over the years. Releasing this album will give me closure on my 'CIS' (Cod Imposter Syndrome)

Coming soon: 20 years of Disco. Watch out!
