Andrew Jilin : Last Day of Summer.
Merging classical european and traditional japanese to create captivating cinematic flute music.
This new album of Moscow flutist and composer Andrew Jilin is a delightful mix of two great music cultures of the world: European academic and traditional Japanese. Andrew has been playing traditional Japanese music since 2006. His previous works were done in authentic Japanese mood. But this time, Andrew is discovering new styles. These pieces were arranged for string quartet, classical guitar and the traditional Japanese bamboo flute: Shakuhachi.
On "Last Day of Summer", you will hear some of Andrew's brand new pieces, traditional Japanese music and, of course, a little goodie he included for his listeners.
Unlike previous works, Last Day of Summer is more easily digestible for those (most notably Europeans and Americans) who have no interest in authentic world music cultures.
This album was created in partnership with several other musicians: American guitar player Gregory Frus, Saint-Petersburg composer Roman Stanskov, and the member from the famous Shakuhachi duet "Two Bamboos". Together these musicians have created a unique piece of music for all those who think they have heard everything, but who are none the less still looking for new music based on strong traditions! Enjoy the journey!
