Federico Moscogiuri : Sailing by the Stars.
Original and evocative lute music.
The title of the album, and that of some of the songs, refers to the human condition of having a degree of control over our lives and our course, but ultimately needing to feel our way along based on our ability to understand and interpret the wider world around us, which we often struggle to understand, let alone control.
For centuries sailors and explorers have relied on the stars to navigate both charted and uncharted waters. The stars in the firmament are both a reminder of how small we are in the vastness of the universe and a source of awe and inspiration - as expressed through our naming of the constellations, among other things.
The title is also a nod to Oscar Wilde's famous quote, "we are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars" - though we don't have to stay in the gutter; in fact we can sail where we wish to with a dream, a desire, a commitment, and what we have in our hands.
