Robert Schumann : "Unperformable" the cellist Robert Bockmuehl commented after the rehearsal on March the 23th 1851. Unfortunately, his commentary had a negative influence on record labels Schumann was dealing with: they then rejected every proposal, even the most profitable. Eventually, in November 1853 at Lipsia, the music publisher Breitkopf offered him a deal on condition that his piece should be suitable for public performance. Thence, Schumann thought of transcribing his piece both for violin (as his friend, the violinist Joseph Joachim suggested him) and for cello and string quartet. The orchestral adaptation was completed in 1854 and it was first performed by the orchestra in Moscow 1867 (cello by David Popper). Until then, the orchestral version was just played by the piano or by the string quartet. The present world premiere recording intends both to reproduce the poetics of music composed at that time and to recreate the mood inspired by the Concerto when it was being played between 1850 and 1867 .

Gioachino Rossini : A young lady, a contender's fiancee, hopes her lover could win the great race; anxiety overtakes her until the victory joy. This instrumental transcription enhanced the melodic inventiveness of these emotional songs.

Saverio Mercadante : The Neapolitan composer wrote his last work when he was already blind. It was dedicated to a friend of his from Capri, a great cello lover.

Niccolò Paganini : Paganini's Variations for the fourth string on the theme from "Mosè" by Rossini were conceived to be played on one string. It is said that Paganini would, on occasion, intentionally break strings himself during a performance so he could further display his virtuosity. Success was assured.
