JS Bach Flute Sonatas and Partita by Takashi Matsuishi Spark Takashi Matsuishi Spark : JS Bach Flute Sonatas and Partita.
Flautists with finesse, intelligence and grooves.

Johann Sebastian Bach's Flute Sonatas and Partita were chosen for this album as they were particularly well suited to capturing the sound and atmosphere of the hall in its pre-renovation state. Sonate h-moll für Flöte und obligates Cembalo BWV 1030 is played here with flute and cembalo without basso continuo. Partita a-moll für Flöte allein BWV 1013, known in the only surviving 18th-century manuscript as 'Solo pour une flöte traversière par J. S. Bach' is for unaccompanied flute. Sonate e-moll für Flöte und Basso Continuo BWV 1034 and Sonate E-dur für Flöte und Basso Continuo BWV 1035 are played with cembalo and basso continuo, and in this album, the basso continuo part is realized with a viola da gamba.

The recording is carefully designed to record not only the sound of the instruments but the ambient sound of the old hall using a highly sensitive one-point stereo microphone system, a specially-tuned tube amp, and a high-precision clock system. The high standard mode (96 kHz, 24 bit) and the folding of full information into CD format enable the listener to appreciate the hi-fidelity sound and precise nuances in performance.

Takashi Matsuishi plays J. S. Bach Flute Sonatas and Partita, recorded at the Hakodate City Community Centre 2011. This album provides a record of Hakodate City Community Centre Hall's unique acoustic qualities. The hall was built in 1933 in the old part of the city and used not only for various lectures and meetings but also as a concert hall. In the later part of the twentieth century, it fell into disrepair, neglect and was sadly used less and less frequently until it was eventually forgotten. Flautist Takashi Matsuishi rediscovered the hall, noting its qualities as worthy of renovation and, since 2007, he has revived its usage by producing a matinee concert series and promoting its unique properties. The hall's renewed popularity with audiences and the media interest in its revival led to a decision by Hakodate City Council to pursue its renovation, bringing its facilities up to modern standards.
