The band members - Obermeyer on vocals and guitar, Mark Marrinan on drums, Cy Dodson on guitar and keyboards, and John Tetrault on bass and vocals - have earned a reputation as an original and expressive band making their mark on the Twin Cities and beyond.\n\nWith the release of their critically acclaimed self-titled EP (2005), Capital Sons has had generous airplay on FM 89.3 The Current. Word of mouth has spread and their live performances routinely draw loyal fans into venues throughout the Twin Cities.\n\nTheir debut album offered creative pop-rock harmonies with a classic feel, and their sophomore release Dirty Neon (2009), featured more heartfelt lyrics and intriguing song arrangements. \"Our music is heart-on-your-sleeve rock and roll,\" says Obermeyer, \"no fluff, no gimmicks, we get up on stage and play our songs. We play the music that comes naturally to us...it's that simple.\"\n\nCapital Sons' newest release, Swim the High Tide, features the band's most mature music thus far. The album finds the band incorporating complex harmonies, Hammond organ, piano, ukulele and even sitar to round out this solid collection of songs. \"This is definitely the strongest and most interesting music we've created yet,\" says lead singer, Karl Obermeyer, \"We're firing on all cylinders musically.\"\n\nYou can find out more about Capital Sons on their website.", "photo" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/img/capital_sons_new.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/capital_sons/", "albums" : [{ "sku" : "capitalsons-swimhighnv", "name" : "Swim the High Tide (vocals removed)", "artist" : { "name" : "Capital Sons", "page" : "capital_sons" }, "release_date" : "2026-10-20", "genres" : ["Alt Rock","Rock"], "vocals" : "vocals removed", "moods" : ["energetic","dramatic","reflective","romantic","hopeful"], "uses" : ["emotional storytelling","documentary","vlog","podcast background","trailer","film score"], "energy" : 4, "instrumentation" : ["hammond organ","piano","ukulele","sitar","rock band"], "sounds_like" : [], "summary" : "Heart-on-sleeve alt-rock with rich harmonies and diverse instrumentation, ideal for emotional storytelling, documentaries, and film scores.", "cover" : "https://magnatune.com/music/Capital%20Sons/Swim%20the%20High%20Tide%20(vocals%20removed)/cover_400.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/albums/capitalsons-swimhighnv/", "api_url" : "https://magnatune.com/api/albums/capitalsons-swimhighnv", "buy_url" : "https://magnatune.com/buy/album?sku=capitalsons-swimhighnv" },{ "sku" : "capitalsons-swimhigh", "name" : "Swim the High Tide", "artist" : { "name" : "Capital Sons", "page" : "capital_sons" }, "release_date" : "2015-02-22", "genres" : ["Alt Rock","Rock"], "vocals" : "vocals", "moods" : ["energetic","dramatic","reflective","romantic","hopeful"], "uses" : ["emotional storytelling","documentary","vlog","podcast background","trailer","film score"], "energy" : 4, "instrumentation" : ["hammond organ","piano","ukulele","sitar","rock band"], "sounds_like" : [], "summary" : "Heart-on-sleeve alt-rock with rich harmonies and diverse instrumentation, ideal for emotional storytelling, documentaries, and film scores.", "cover" : "https://magnatune.com/music/Capital%20Sons/Swim%20the%20High%20Tide/cover_400.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/albums/capitalsons-swimhigh/", "api_url" : "https://magnatune.com/api/albums/capitalsons-swimhigh", "buy_url" : "https://magnatune.com/buy/album?sku=capitalsons-swimhigh" }] }, "license" : { "music_license" : "Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 1.0 (CC BY-NC-SA 1.0)", "music_license_url" : "https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/1.0/", "listening" : "Stream the free previews, or buy an album for $8 to download it in MP3, AAC, ALAC, FLAC, OGG or WAV. 100% of the price goes to the musician.", "non_commercial" : "Non-commercial projects may use the music under CC BY-NC-SA 1.0: credit the artist and Magnatune, and share alike.", "projects" : "Magnatune members may use any Magnatune music in their projects, commercial or not (videos, films, podcasts, games, apps, websites, adverts), including work for clients, under the Magnatune Project Licence.
