Both of them have been composing and performing music professionally, for over thirty years each. Working under the name \"Fernwood\", their cinematic music blends the beautiful sounds of Greek & Irish bouzouki, sitar, acoustic guitar, Chinese ruan, Turkish cumbus, Moroccan oud, mandolin, harmonium, rababa, gimbri, dilruba, bulbul tarang, jal tarang, dotara, tenor banjo, swarsangam, gopichand, upright bass and rhodes piano.\n\nTodd Montgomery and Gayle Ellett are currently exploring new areas of folk-psyche music. Contemporary yet Traditional, their music has a strong pan-cultural feel. By combining elements of Pastoral Acoustic Psychedelic music, with the sounds of Traditional American, Irish, Eastern European, Asian, and Middle Eastern music, they have created a hybrid style that is uniquely their own.\n\nGUITAR PLAYER Magazine discribed their music as \"Wonderfully melodic, expertly layered, masterfully interwoven, luscious yet rootsy\".\n\nTheir music has a strong autobiographical feel that accurately portrays a sense of who they are and where they live. Recorded in their Malibu studio, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, their music is a reflection of their lives in Southern California as well as the previous work they've done in the areas of Film and TV composition, Traditional World music, Rock and Jazz.\n\nThey are also working with numerous film directors from around the world, on a wide variety of projects. These include artistic, commercial, and NGO films from: Holland, India, Brazil, UAE, Finland, South Africa, Thailand, Australia, Croatia, Serbia, Turkey, New Zealand, Italy, France, UK, Belize, Indonesia, Cuba, and Mexico.", "photo" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/img/fernwood.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/fernwood/", "albums" : [{ "sku" : "fernwood-arcadia", "name" : "Arcadia", "artist" : { "name" : "Fernwood", "page" : "fernwood" }, "release_date" : "2015-08-03", "genres" : ["World","Blues","Alt Rock"], "vocals" : "vocals", "moods" : ["epic","inspiring","peaceful","exotic","reflective","warm"], "uses" : ["film score","nature documentary","travel","emotional storytelling","meditation or yoga","documentary"], "energy" : 3, "instrumentation" : ["acoustic guitar","sitar","bouzouki","violin","piano","harmonium"], "sounds_like" : [], "summary" : "An all-acoustic, pan-cultural instrumental album with warm, golden-toned world instruments; ideal for evocative film scoring and calming yet epic storytelling.", "cover" : "https://magnatune.com/music/Fernwood/Arcadia/cover_400.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/albums/fernwood-arcadia/", "api_url" : "https://magnatune.com/api/albums/fernwood-arcadia", "buy_url" : "https://magnatune.com/buy/album?sku=fernwood-arcadia" },{ "sku" : "fernwood-sangita", "name" : "Sangita", "artist" : { "name" : "Fernwood", "page" : "fernwood" }, "release_date" : "2009-10-24", "genres" : ["World","New Age"], "vocals" : "vocals", "moods" : ["peaceful","reflective","elegant","exotic","inspiring","warm"], "uses" : ["travel","nature documentary","documentary","film score","meditation or yoga","spa or massage"], "energy" : 3, "instrumentation" : ["acoustic guitar","sitar","oud","violin","upright bass","harmonium"], "sounds_like" : [], "summary" : "An elegant, warm, and exotic acoustic world music album with cinematic and pan-cultural appeal, ideal for travel, nature, and meditative projects.", "cover" : "https://magnatune.com/music/Fernwood/Sangita/cover_400.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/albums/fernwood-sangita/", "api_url" : "https://magnatune.com/api/albums/fernwood-sangita", "buy_url" : "https://magnatune.com/buy/album?sku=fernwood-sangita" },{ "sku" : "fernwood-almeria", "name" : "Almeria", "artist" : { "name" : "Fernwood", "page" : "fernwood" }, "release_date" : "2008-07-26", "genres" : ["World","New Age"], "vocals" : "instrumental", "moods" : ["dreamy","ethereal","melancholic","reflective","peaceful","mysterious"], "uses" : ["nature documentary","travel","meditation or yoga","spa or massage","emotional storytelling","film score"], "energy" : 2, "instrumentation" : ["acoustic guitar","sitar","moroccan oud","harmonium","violin","upright bass"], "sounds_like" : [], "summary" : "Frail, haunting, and cinematic world-fusion music blending Greek, Indian, Middle Eastern, and Appalachian instruments—ideal for evocative visual storytelling and contemplative media.", "cover" : "https://magnatune.com/music/Fernwood/Almeria/cover_400.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/albums/fernwood-almeria/", "api_url" : "https://magnatune.com/api/albums/fernwood-almeria", "buy_url" : "https://magnatune.com/buy/album?sku=fernwood-almeria" }] }, "license" : { "music_license" : "Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 1.0 (CC BY-NC-SA 1.0)", "music_license_url" : "https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/1.0/", "listening" : "Stream the free previews, or buy an album for $8 to download it in MP3, AAC, ALAC, FLAC, OGG or WAV. 100% of the price goes to the musician.", "non_commercial" : "Non-commercial projects may use the music under CC BY-NC-SA 1.0: credit the artist and Magnatune, and share alike.", "projects" : "Magnatune members may use any Magnatune music in their projects, commercial or not (videos, films, podcasts, games, apps, websites, adverts), including work for clients, under the Magnatune Project Licence.
