His musical career started in Yugoslavia where he acquired his formal music education at the early age and joined the local music scene to play with numerous groups.\n\nIn the '90s, he eventually relocated to the USA and continued his musical journey. He has played extensively with various groups and could be seen in clubs, festivals and on stages throughout the USA and Canada.\n\nAfter focusing on more private studies Koshanin developed an interest in reed instruments and gradually shifted to new directions, now working with several World Music groups performing Latin, African and Mediterranean music styles. He continued recording and performing live and by this time all the accumulated collaborations and side works in both Europe and USA amounted to over 30 albums.\n\nMeanwhile Koshanin found himself returning to his first love in music - piano, and coupled with the revived fascination with Balkan folk music from his childhood, this laid the foundation for a new body of work. By blending the sounds of the Old World with the contemporary Western music, Koshanin transforms piano into a modern-day folk instrument with his unique interpretations of traditional Balkan folk songs and original, folk music inspired compositions.\n\nKoshanin is currently based in Portland, Oregon. He performed at various venues throughout the Pacific Northwest including Seattle's Folklife Festival, Salem World Beat Festival, The Earth Day Conference and is also a resident artist at Portland International Airport's \"Arts & Entertainment Program\" where he performs regularly.\n\nYou can find out more about Koshanin on his website.", "photo" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/img/koshanin.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/koshanin/", "albums" : [{ "sku" : "koshanin-sacredtree", "name" : "Under the Sacred Tree", "artist" : { "name" : "Koshanin", "page" : "koshanin" }, "release_date" : "2018-11-13", "genres" : ["Classical","Instrumental Classical","Neoclassical","Instrumental World","World"], "vocals" : "instrumental", "moods" : ["peaceful","reflective","dreamy","meditative","spiritual"], "uses" : ["meditation or yoga","spa or massage","study or focus","podcast background","emotional storytelling","nature documentary"], "energy" : 2, "instrumentation" : ["solo piano"], "sounds_like" : [], "summary" : "A peaceful, reflective solo piano album featuring original compositions and Slavic folk arrangements, ideal for meditation, study, or calming background in videos and podcasts.", "cover" : "https://magnatune.com/music/Koshanin/Under%20the%20Sacred%20Tree/cover_400.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/albums/koshanin-sacredtree/", "api_url" : "https://magnatune.com/api/albums/koshanin-sacredtree", "buy_url" : "https://magnatune.com/buy/album?sku=koshanin-sacredtree" },{ "sku" : "koshanin-oversevenseas", "name" : "Over Seven Seas", "artist" : { "name" : "Koshanin", "page" : "koshanin" }, "release_date" : "2014-11-23", "genres" : ["Classical","Neoclassical","New Age","Instrumental Classical","Instrumental New Age"], "vocals" : "instrumental", "moods" : ["dreamy","reflective","peaceful","mysterious","nostalgic","melancholic"], "uses" : ["travel","nature documentary","meditation or yoga","spa or massage","study or focus","emotional storytelling"], "energy" : 2, "instrumentation" : ["solo piano"], "sounds_like" : [], "summary" : "Solo piano music blending Balkan and Mediterranean folk traditions with contemporary classical and jazz techniques, ideal for reflective, atmospheric, or culturally evocative projects.", "cover" : "https://magnatune.com/music/Koshanin/Over%20Seven%20Seas/cover_400.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/albums/koshanin-oversevenseas/", "api_url" : "https://magnatune.com/api/albums/koshanin-oversevenseas", "buy_url" : "https://magnatune.com/buy/album?sku=koshanin-oversevenseas" }] }, "license" : { "music_license" : "Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 1.0 (CC BY-NC-SA 1.0)", "music_license_url" : "https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/1.0/", "listening" : "Stream the free previews, or buy an album for $8 to download it in MP3, AAC, ALAC, FLAC, OGG or WAV. 100% of the price goes to the musician.", "non_commercial" : "Non-commercial projects may use the music under CC BY-NC-SA 1.0: credit the artist and Magnatune, and share alike.", "projects" : "Magnatune members may use any Magnatune music in their projects, commercial or not (videos, films, podcasts, games, apps, websites, adverts), including work for clients, under the Magnatune Project Licence.
