He worked as a composer, arranger and sound engineer in his own studio. One day he decided to leave his work and sell his studio. When asked, \"Why did you do this?\", he answered: \"I can no longer write about music whilst having to think about money. It's not about music.\"\n\nSasha travelled into the Holy Land. He learned a few spirit practices and after 13 years of silence he started to write his own style of music with live sitar, didgeridoo (played by Genady Alpatov on this album), hand drums and electronic sounds in the background. Now he is relishing life as an independent musician.\n\nYou can follow more of Sasha's music on Soundcloud.", "photo" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/img/sasha_merkulov.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/sasha_merkulov/", "albums" : [{ "sku" : "smerkulov-distinctselection", "name" : "Distinct Selection", "artist" : { "name" : "Sasha Merkulov", "page" : "sasha_merkulov" }, "release_date" : "2019-09-20", "genres" : ["World","Instrumental Electronica"], "vocals" : "vocals", "moods" : ["meditative","spiritual","ethereal","calm","exotic","reflective"], "uses" : ["meditation or yoga","spa or massage","study or focus","podcast background","nature documentary","emotional storytelling"], "energy" : 3, "instrumentation" : ["sitar","didgeridoo","ambient synths","ethnic percussion","layered textures"], "sounds_like" : [], "summary" : "Ethnic New Age ambient music with Indian influence, sitar, and didgeridoo—ideal for meditation, yoga, spa, or focused listening on quality sound systems.", "cover" : "https://magnatune.com/music/Sasha%20Merkulov/Distinct%20Selection/cover_400.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/albums/smerkulov-distinctselection/", "api_url" : "https://magnatune.com/api/albums/smerkulov-distinctselection", "buy_url" : "https://magnatune.com/buy/album?sku=smerkulov-distinctselection" },{ "sku" : "smerkulov-thebridge", "name" : "The Bridge", "artist" : { "name" : "Sasha Merkulov", "page" : "sasha_merkulov" }, "release_date" : "2016-05-20", "genres" : ["World","Electronica"], "vocals" : "vocals", "moods" : ["meditative","peaceful","dreamy","spiritual","hypnotic","mysterious"], "uses" : ["meditation or yoga","spa or massage","study or focus","podcast background","nature documentary","emotional storytelling"], "energy" : 2, "instrumentation" : ["sitar","didgeridoo","ambient synthesizer sounds","ethnic percussion","vocals"], "sounds_like" : [], "summary" : "Ethnic New Age ambient grooves with sitar, didgeridoo, and synths—calm, meditative, and spiritually evocative, ideal for relaxation, focus, or atmospheric background.", "cover" : "https://magnatune.com/music/Sasha%20Merkulov/The%20Bridge/cover_400.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/albums/smerkulov-thebridge/", "api_url" : "https://magnatune.com/api/albums/smerkulov-thebridge", "buy_url" : "https://magnatune.com/buy/album?sku=smerkulov-thebridge" },{ "sku" : "smerkulov-airbibrations", "name" : "Air Vibrations", "artist" : { "name" : "Sasha Merkulov", "page" : "sasha_merkulov" }, "release_date" : "2014-09-08", "genres" : ["New Age","Electronica","World"], "vocals" : "vocals", "moods" : ["meditative","spiritual","peaceful","dreamy","exotic","hypnotic"], "uses" : ["meditation or yoga","spa or massage","study or focus","podcast background","nature documentary","emotional storytelling"], "energy" : 3, "instrumentation" : ["sitar","rhythmic grooves","ambient textures","vocals","melodic phrases"], "sounds_like" : [], "summary" : "Ethnic New Age and ambient music with sitar, rhythmic grooves, and vocals, ideal for meditation, yoga, spa, or focused listening.", "cover" : "https://magnatune.com/music/Sasha%20Merkulov/Air%20Vibrations/cover_400.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/albums/smerkulov-airbibrations/", "api_url" : "https://magnatune.com/api/albums/smerkulov-airbibrations", "buy_url" : "https://magnatune.com/buy/album?sku=smerkulov-airbibrations" }] }, "license" : { "music_license" : "Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 1.0 (CC BY-NC-SA 1.0)", "music_license_url" : "https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/1.0/", "listening" : "Stream the free previews, or buy an album for $8 to download it in MP3, AAC, ALAC, FLAC, OGG or WAV. 100% of the price goes to the musician.", "non_commercial" : "Non-commercial projects may use the music under CC BY-NC-SA 1.0: credit the artist and Magnatune, and share alike.", "projects" : "Magnatune members may use any Magnatune music in their projects, commercial or not (videos, films, podcasts, games, apps, websites, adverts), including work for clients, under the Magnatune Project Licence.
