They had met drummer Nick T. through a mutual friend, and later acquired Marvin S. (through Nick.)\n\nFor about one year the 4 \"jammed\" and wrote some songs, and decided to get serious. The first show played was an instrumental set at a High School Talent Show. Performing their songs Bloody Mary, and Apocalyptica. Though they aren't the most original names, the songs created a very positive response from the audience. Shortly thereafter the band auditioned Jeff Hayward.\n\nIt was with this line-up that the band began writing more songs, and began performing shows. Frequenting at clubs like Traditions (Ridgewood,Queens), and Voodoo Lounge (Bayside, Queens). In mid 1999, the band and Jeff H. decided to part ways, due to creative differences.\n\nIn addition to Jeff leaving the band, Dani (who played guitars at the time) had began going to school in Boston, Ma. With only one guitarist at hand the group had began \"auditioning\" guitarist, and found Ian S. With a rather quick decision, the band decided to take Ian.\n\nWhen Dani came back he took the position of vocals, and keyboards. Since this time, the band has recorded a full length album. Have gotten many positive reviews (from the promos sent out), had the opportunity to take many interviews. and have promoted themselves by playing some great venues", "photo" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/img/utopia_banished.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/utopia_banished/", "albums" : [{ "sku" : "utopiabanished-nightnv", "name" : "Night of the Black Wyvern (vocals removed)", "artist" : { "name" : "Utopia Banished", "page" : "utopia_banished" }, "release_date" : "2026-10-23", "genres" : ["Hard Rock"], "vocals" : "vocals removed", "moods" : ["dark","ominous","aggressive","tense","dramatic","epic"], "uses" : ["trailer","gaming","horror or thriller","fantasy or medieval","sports or action","film score"], "energy" : 5, "instrumentation" : ["machine gun drums","angular guitar work","ragged vocals","melodic death metal"], "sounds_like" : ["At The Gates","Dissection","Amon Amarth"], "summary" : "Super dark and precise melodic death metal with intense drums, biting guitars, and wrathful vocals—ideal for trailers, gaming, and fantasy or horror projects.", "cover" : "https://magnatune.com/music/Utopia%20Banished/Night%20of%20the%20Black%20Wyvern%20(vocals%20removed)/cover_400.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/albums/utopiabanished-nightnv/", "api_url" : "https://magnatune.com/api/albums/utopiabanished-nightnv", "buy_url" : "https://magnatune.com/buy/album?sku=utopiabanished-nightnv" },{ "sku" : "utopiabanished-night", "name" : "Night of the Black Wyvern", "artist" : { "name" : "Utopia Banished", "page" : "utopia_banished" }, "release_date" : "2004-01-02", "genres" : ["Hard Rock"], "vocals" : "vocals", "moods" : ["dark","ominous","aggressive","tense","dramatic","epic"], "uses" : ["trailer","gaming","horror or thriller","fantasy or medieval","sports or action","film score"], "energy" : 5, "instrumentation" : ["machine gun drums","angular guitar work","ragged vocals","melodic death metal"], "sounds_like" : ["At The Gates","Dissection","Amon Amarth"], "summary" : "Super dark and precise melodic death metal with intense drums, biting guitars, and wrathful vocals—ideal for trailers, gaming, and fantasy or horror projects.", "cover" : "https://magnatune.com/music/Utopia%20Banished/Night%20of%20the%20Black%20Wyvern/cover_400.jpg", "web_url" : "https://magnatune.com/artists/albums/utopiabanished-night/", "api_url" : "https://magnatune.com/api/albums/utopiabanished-night", "buy_url" : "https://magnatune.com/buy/album?sku=utopiabanished-night" }] }, "license" : { "music_license" : "Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 1.0 (CC BY-NC-SA 1.0)", "music_license_url" : "https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/1.0/", "listening" : "Stream the free previews, or buy an album for $8 to download it in MP3, AAC, ALAC, FLAC, OGG or WAV. 100% of the price goes to the musician.", "non_commercial" : "Non-commercial projects may use the music under CC BY-NC-SA 1.0: credit the artist and Magnatune, and share alike.", "projects" : "Magnatune members may use any Magnatune music in their projects, commercial or not (videos, films, podcasts, games, apps, websites, adverts), including work for clients, under the Magnatune Project Licence.
