Jeni Melia : Sister Awake.
Elizabethan lute and folk song.
Soprano Jeni Melia and lutenist Christopher Goodwin perform Elizabethan-era songs specifically chosen to reveal what a woman's life was like in that time. Melia's crystal clear voice is perfectly suited to the simple, pared down production style, bringing a vibrancy and immediacy to the selections. On the full version, Kathryn Hamilton-Hall contributes some readings of Elizabethan era poetry, including some verses ascribed to the Queen herself. This version of the album includes brief readings of poems from the era as well. For a music only version of the album, click here.
