First Album by Thursday Group Thursday Group : First Album.
Melodic composed progressive jazz.

If you're one of those people who thinks modern jazz is just inherently cheesy, check out the Thursday Group and see if they don't prove you wrong. Clayton Englar's sax playing alone would be worth the price of admission here (it's absolutely fantastic) but on top of that there's Doug Lichterman's subtly tight guitar work backed by exceptionally sensitive bass and foamy, atmospheric drums. This is one of those jazz ensembles that is just completely aware of one another at all times, plus they have an exceptionally artful sense of melody. It's their melodies in particular that make it clear that Thursday Group is not simply re-heating a bunch of jazz tropes; they're finding a musical path together. What they find is a sound that's deeply modern yet warm and accessible too. Really excellent, and 100 percent cheese free.
