Jeff McAuley: Explorations and compositions on the cello.

Jeff C. McAuley was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on July 18, 1973. He grew up in Binghamton, New York, where he began a relationship with the cello at the age of 7. After winning numerous local awards, he went on to study cello performance at the Aaron Copland School of Music where his primary teachers were Stephen Kates and Barbara Stein Mallow. Before entering into graduate school, Jeff spent three oddly productive years in San Francisco, where he was able to explore more alternative forms of music outside the realm of his more traditional classical undergraduate training. It was during this period that Jeff first began composing. He later went on to recieve a M.M. degree from Northern Illinois University under the guidance of Marc Johnson and other members of the Vermeer String Quartet. After completing his graduate studies, Jeff moved to Istanbul, Turkey where he spent over ten years. He has been a faculty member in the music departments at Istanbul Bilgi University (2001-2005), and Halic University(2006-2010) both in Istanbul. Since then Jeff has moved back to the United States where he continues to teach privately, compose, and produce music for various media projects including for TV and film.

He has performed as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and/or orchestral musician in the United States, Europe, and Asia. His music has been broadcast on radio and television, used for dance and theatrical productions, and has been performed live in various venues throughout the world. Jeff currently resides in upstate NY, with his wife, son, and two spoiled cats.
