There is something to be said about someone having the courage to release an
instrumental album in 2012, and looking to make a dent in the pop-drenched
landscape of the music world.
Ray Montford, the virtuoso guitarist and Canada's
own aficionado of the 6 string, has done just that and done it with great style,
grace, and conviction.
His 11 track and sixth studio album Vintage Is Now is as beautiful a
collection of guitar lead compositions as it is raw and uninhibited. Picture a
journey on a magic carpet ride over a turbulent and roaring sea while laying on
pillows of silk and down, flying through the white capped waves. Opium dreams
you say? Montford knows exactly how to evoke these grandiose visions with
his flawless playing and keep you in a state of unencumbered sensory bliss the
whole way through.
Could Ray Montford be Canada's own Jeff Beck? With this gift of an album where
so many emotions are touched on throughout, one has to think he may just be
carving out his own path as a guitarist and letting his playing do the talking.
Perhaps no one could ever fill the shoes of the guitar gods of the past but it
doesn't seem that Ray has set out to achieve this shadow goal. His playing is
unique, honest, and still enthusiastic which is rare these days as instrumentals
go. His love for the guitar shines through the music which in essence keeps you,
as the listener, so connected to his playing. Ray's songs become the canvas of
ones imagination and boldly paint a vision where voice and lyrics have no place
over the roar of one man and his guitar.

Description:
Deep Space auditory exploration as seen through a prism of primeval human emotions
Deep space travels where sights, sounds and illusions reflect onto human emotions. The extra-terrestrial vistas one encounters here are created out of organic elements mixed with micro noises, seamlessly fused into lush soundscapes. Images projected by these textures and melodies bring about both, melancholy and a sense of wonder, sometimes looking deep into the future, other times revealing ancient and primeval past.
With "Fear and Curiosity", Kaufman dives into a lush, layered post-rock sound.
He draws from his previous work in electronic and orchestral production, but the
soundscapes take on an entirely new character. Sweeping washed-out guitars and
unorthodox rhythmic elements create a delicate balance between simmering
intensity and subdued ambience. Complex sonic architecture carries the simple
soaring melodies into an otherworldly space.
The music on Deep Winter album is a spirit of classic rock with a new fresh and modern new look. It is a mix of garage rock, blues rock, dance rock, rock and roll, alternative and psychedelic rock. The album is an entirely self-produced product made by two members of the band to realise a shared vision of lovely classic rock thing in 21st century.
This is the debut LP album from rock duo Deep Winter.
The album finds the musicians seamlessly incorporating complex harmonies,
Hammond organ, piano, ukulele and even sitar to round out this solid collection
of songs. "This is definitely the strongest and most interesting music we've
created yet," says lead singer, Karl Obermeyer, "We're firing on all cylinders
musically."
With songs ranging from the adrenaline-driven "Slackjaw" and intense
"Amsterdam," to the intimate "Myself In You" and dynamic rock saga "Perfect
Alibi," the band has delivered a solid album - the songs sharing emotional
states and narrative threads.
Swim the High Tide was recorded and produced by Jason Orris at Terrarium Studios
(Tapes 'n Tapes, Halloween Alaska, The Jayhawks).
Following successful receptions of their first two albums
(Self-titled EP in 2006, and Dirty Neon in 2009), Swim the High Tide features
the band's most mature music created to date.
