New Magnatune Music For The Summer Heat

At temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees, summer has unmistakably arrived in North America. This certainly was a great July 4th - and we hope you enjoyed it. Happy belated Independence Day! How very unfortunate that our European friends got more than their fair share of rain and floodings this summer. We severely do not envy you, Europeans!

However, we thought we could do our part to help spread summer around the globe a bit more evenly. How? Well, by once more diving into the trove of our music treasures! Yes, we did find quite a few jewels that will bring summer and sun into your very home. Or what's more summery than Brazilian and Spanish music, with the addition of some albums that were actually dedicated to summer? Right, kinda nothing.

So here's our choice of summer albums that will chase any rainy weather mood out of your life. Enjoy!

Kim Ribeiro: Majestic

Release date: 05/01/2010
Classical, World, Brazilian

Thinking of Brazilian music, what comes first in mind tend to be some of its most famous musicians, such as Gilberto Gil and Antonio Carlos Jobim. However, they are not the only ones spreading joy with their truly unique, jazzy style that influenced Brazil so much. No, the Brazilian way of doing music has long leaked its way into genres other than jazz. Kim Ribeiro is a very good example of that: take Bach and other classical composers, a flute, Brazilian influences, and then stir well. Et voilà, that's pretty much how Ribeiro's album, "Majestic", must have been born! It's classical, but it's also Brazilian. Which we find just perfect for a summer edition of our newsletter. We hope you'll check this out!

Laura Dreyer: Mysterious Encounter

Release date: 07/09/2011
Brazilian Jazz

Speaking of Brazil, we thought we could just continue what we started and dive further into this country's jazz. But contrary to Ribeiro, Laura Dreyer's toy is a saxophone, on which she masterfully improvises with Brazilian rhythms and textures. Accompanied by Portinho on the drums, Helcio Milito on percussion, Weber Iago on the piano and vocalist Leny Andrade, Mysterious Encounter should bring truly everyone in a great summer mood. If you love Gil and Jobim, or if you would like to dive into Brazilian jazz, Laura's album is just about what you need. Taking an earful is highly recommended!

Barks and Crock: Summer Savage

Release date: 09/25/2013
Electronica, Pop, Lounge

Ok, we admit that Barks and Crock probably is the first non-Brazilian thing in this newsletter. But don't they also have the only album of our catalogue that actually officially has a summer title while still spreading some loungeosphere? Barks and Crock are from Berlin, Germany, and known for their smooth house beats. Imagine sipping a cocktail at a beach bar while listening to "I won't cry". No, we definitely wouldn't ever cry thinking of that, because perfection is how that sort of summer could be described. With Barks and Crock, life is even more beautiful!

Tomas Lozano: La Mañana de San Juan

Release date: 04/24/2010
World, Folk, Spanish

Spain is known for its Flamenco, for bull fights, and for extremely yummy tapas. What many people don't know is how diverse this beautiful country actually is. It started with the ancient Iberian and Celtic people of the peninsula, who were invaded by Romans, Goths, Vandals, Normans, Moors, Carthaginians and many more famous, ancient civilizations. But what's more interesting is the beautiful culture and music that resulted from this. It's Spain's history that created its rich Spanish folk music. And with his album, La Mañana de San Juan, Tomas Lozano brings history to life in melancholic songs from over the country. Nothing better than daydreaming on a beautiful summer day. And Tomas Lozano's album is just perfect for just that!

Chad Farran: Another Ride

Release date: 11/20/2011
Rock, Pop, Latino

Chad Farran's album Another Ride is what actually brought up the idea to create a newsletter with summer albums. While we were tinkering with different playlists and trying to compile a set of albums for something we would have called "Dramatic Summer Finds" or something, we listened to to his album again and decided "hey, this pretty much is the perfect summer album!" So we decided to compile albums of a somewhat similar style. Chad's album is a truly smooth, upbeat jewel that brings rock, pop and Brazilian influences together. No matter if you plan on listening this while working or to actually dance to it - it all works. Really, you should check it out!

Description:Berlin based electronic music - from ambient atmospheric to dance
Genre:Electronica
Artist:Barks and Crock
Album:Summer Savage

Here comes Berlin's alternative to the worn out Ibiza-House. The album starts up with the track "I won't cry", a singer-songwriter theme, mixed with some smooth electronic house beats. The song was produced in collaboration with the brilliant Berlin-based jazz musician Gita Delvenakiotis, a Greek-German concert pianist, singer and composer. She participated in big film festivals, Cannes, for example, has won prizes at the Steinway Competition and has given concerts all over the world.

With "Summerwaves" the album evolves into electronic summer house style music. Uptempo easy-listening parts blend with more club-orientated ones, like in the song "Love You", or the great minimal house track "Westsidebeat". The whole album is peppered with elaborate vocals and lyrics praising the summer. So get your summer feeling whenever you need it. The album ends with a bonus remix of "Love You". Summer Savage will max out the feelgood pop attitude that is inherent in every great summerday. Smiles included.

Are you looking for some great summer tunes? Don't look any further.
