On its album Mensa Sonora & Al., the Simplicissimus Ensemble presents music by the 17th century Austrian baroque composer Heinrich Biber. Published in 1680 under the title Mensa Sonora (Sonorous Table), his suites combine catchy melodies with accompaniments which are rich in counterpoints, are sensitively harmonized, but are never intrusive. In addition to his compositional skills, Biber's sensitivity to humor is also evident in several passages. Thus, these works are not only a 17th century lounge music of sorts; while easy to listen to, they are also musically complex compositions that can be enjoyed even without the feasts.
Description:
original jazz fusion with hints of rock, classical and Latin music
I see this Album as the follow up to my first Magnatune release 'H-Bone Re issue Rock' as it sort of has a similar Surf/vintage rock feel in places.
This Album 'Trash Guitars' is so called, as I went through a phase of buying Old 60's Japanese guitars from various places on my travels in the UK,
Notably the Isle of Wight. There I came across a couple of interesting music shops that had some down on ther luck old guitars and in need of TLC.
I have always really liked the idea of buying something that has not been played for many years, restoring it giving it a new lease life.
Here are 10 tracks featuring them doing what they were designed to do in my mind; trashy rock'n'roll surf jams with their own unique sounds.
Description:
Intriguing ambient music telling tales from South Africa
'n Ander Tipe Niks (i.e., A Different Type of Nothing) was the first album I decided to name in my native language, Afrikaans. The primary reason for this was the subject matter itself, as the album attempts to capture the vastness and richness of some of South Africa's desert landscapes. During a tour of the Northern Cape region in 2019, I was struck by the contradicting nature of how a desolate and inhospitable landscape can provide a dense wealth of experience and, years later, the vividness of these different landscapes is still fresh in my memory. While the idea for an ambient album was born a year before, which was also a stark departure from the style I had become used to working in, the tour of the desert became the driving force behind the goal of this album and several recordings from this made their way into the songs in various forms. Diep Verlatenheid means "Deep Desolation", Koue Dooie Plek means "Cold Dead Place", and Gaan 'n Lang Lang Lang Winter Wees means "Going to be a Long Long Long Winter". The other two tracks, Kathu and Keimoes, refer to the names of towns.
