hands upon black earth by hands upon black earth hands upon black earth : hands upon black earth.
Solid, sensual, organic, languorous electronic music.

The enlightened-yet-sleek Hands Upon Black Earth flows effortlessly and—for the most part—serenely, but has enough bite and back end to keep the overall mood energetic and upbeat. Luminous little flourishes of Eastern and Middle eastern vocals drift in and out of solid, sensual beats, perfectly illustrating what breakbeat has in common with world's complex polyrythms. Standout instrumental/ambient vocal tracks include "Inspiral" and "Kalimayantra," but there are also some really strong vocal-driven tracks too. "Ghost Song" is a beautifully melancholy trip-hop track featuring Sharon Knight on vocals, and graceful countermelodies sung in Hindi, while "Otherside," is a subtly torchy song that alludes the group's early Massive Attack influences. "Divindei" and "Lastime" provide the album's most driving and darkly mystical moments, while "Priest" ends things on a hypnotic, spirtual note.
