You'd hardly know that Sideways is Seattle native Mr. Epic's debut album. Highly literate beats, sampling, and turntablism blend with whispery, jazz inflected melodies to form an atmospheric, sultry album of huge appeal. Epic has a way with sonic textures that give his work a lot of character and soul, and he's also quite obviously a master of mood —favoring urbane, nocturnal soundscapes laced with muted trumpets, smoky beats, and echoing water droplets. It's electric, eclectic noir at it's finest.
