"Electric Snow" tries to
capture multiple genres of instrumental music ranging from contemporary
classical compositions to epic new age/film music.
All compositions on this album are original works, performed by top musicians
and orchestrated by a team of talented arrangers.
This Album features the composition "Roger's Film," which is a tribute to the
late film critic, Roger Ebert. Roger Ebert spent his career at the Chicago
Sun-Times, starting as a young graduate from the University of Illinois and
continuing through his fight and struggle with thyroid cancer. Throughout his
life, Roger Ebert embodied the optimism of the American spirit which I tried to
incorporate in this musical tribute.
Finally, "Electric Snow" is an album that I began working on five years ago.
Throughout this process I have collaborated with dozens of musicians, multiple
composers, arrangers and recording engineers, all of whom have brought their
specific talents, skills, and expertise to this momentous project. Without them,
"Electric Snow" would not have been possible. Therefore, I would like to offer
my thanks to the following individuals:
Ari Fisher- Arranger and Orchestrator
Jim Reeves - Recording Engineer
Dr. Jeffrey Kowalkowski - Conductor and Composer
Ben Davis - Arranger
Dean Landon - Producer and Recording Engineer
And to the dozens of musicians for their performances.
It has been an honor working with these top-notch artists. I look forward to the
opportunity to working with them again soon and to share in our continued
success in making great music. Thank you.
Denver-based vintage jazz group Joe Smith and The Spicy Pickles present
High-Fidelity, an album of all original swing music inspired by the
classic small group sounds of the late 30's and early 40's. The concept behind
"High-Fidelity" is to provide a smart recording of new, danceable tunes for the
swing and blues communities.
The album aims to give dancers and listeners alike
more of what they love, but haven't heard before. The band leader and
self-admitted purist, Joe Smith, deliberately cut out all of the excessive noise
that detracts from the album's primary objective: delivering quality music.
Devoid of crowdfunding, pretentious artwork, and politics, the music speaks for
itself.
With the debut of "High Fidelity", the Pickles bring forth the band's
identity. They do not intend to merely mimic the greats, but aspire to create
new tunes that celebrate the refined spirit of pre-war swing and entertainment.
Written with historic acumen in composition, arrangement, tempo, rhythm, and
sound quality - along with true vintage instruments and set-up - the band crafts
an accurate and authentic sound that reintroduces American swing to a new
generation.
As a group, the band honed their recording process and musicianship to provide a
pristine sound that is decidedly unique. The album opens and closes with the
band's theme song "Slow Cookin'" in an homage to the big band era's days of
radio shows. "The Pen is Mightier" pays tribute to the small group Goodman sound
featuring a melody played by Elijah Samuels on clarinet, Joseph Chudyk on vibes,
and Al Scholl on guitar. Featuring Prescott Blackler on trombone and Adam
Sammakia on bass, "The Baltiquerque Stomp" is a fast, driving number with a nod
to early jazz. "Benny's Blues" is an ode to current New Orleans trumpet player,
Ben Polcer, and "It's Alright for a Night" pays tribute to Cole Porter. The band
takes inspiration from Billy Strayhorn and the Duke Ellington Orchestra for "The
Gherkin Train", which features Elijah Samuels on tenor sax. All tracks on the
album were composed and arranged by horn players, Elijah Samuels, Prescott
Blackler, and Joe Smith.
Montreal writer and composer Krassy Halatchev (Icicle) invites us into the
universe of his latest album - a world of sensual fantasies, eerie nightmares
and biting reality. The third instalment of his solo career titled "Reverie",
releases officially on April 3rd, 2016.
Matured and eclectic sound (think of a blend between Depeche Mode, Placebo,
Simple Minds, The Black Keys and Beck) fills the 48-minute record.
This latest studio full-length consists of 12 unmistakable compositions that are
woven with passion and conviction. They span through delicate slow rhythms,
voluptuous mid-range and furious up-tempo.
Icicle takes us through his world of tenderness ("Nothing In You"), apocalypse
("Fools Refuse To Learn"), personal disappointment ("What Day Is Today"),
intimate stasis ("Boggles My Mind") and social criticism ("Paranoid Pigeon",
"The Edge On Which We Run").
Icicle's philosophy has closely tied him together with Florida-based poet Joel
Jenkins, the man behind the integral and deep-felt lyrics of 4 songs on this
record. This collaboration has given life to compositions that are extremely
personal and universal at the same time. "Paranoid Pigeon", the album's first
single, is a perfect example of their remarkable teamwork. The song is simply
contagious, driven by a hypnotic groove and infectious hooks. Its imagery
reflects the zeitgeist of today and the chorus resonates long after the song's
end.
The Crimea is more than just a geopolitically important stretch of land between Ukraine and Russia. This region is known for its beautiful landscapes and its vibrant culture.
It is where Dmitry is part of musical life every summer. Hence, getting inspired by the Crimea and expressing things in impressive piano pieces in classical style would seem like the most natural thing in the universe. On the Wave's Wings, Dmitry is doing exactly that: the album reflects impressions of summer trips to the Crimea with its immense vastness, width and soaring vistas. An album for dreamers, On the Wave's Wings is great for relaxation and daydreaming. Are you ready for a fascinating journey? Then, you should give this album a listen!
I call them inner city beats: easy listening music ranging from hip-hop, jazz, funk and soul to downtempo, lounge and broken beats.
Call it as you like, put it in a box of your choice.... in the end of the day it's just good music, no matter how you tag it! Now sit back relax and enjoy Beats That Collected Dust. Peace.
